Peace, Love and Understanding

For some in the ICS community, last night was the end of Chanukah; a celebration of the Jewish people's re-dedication to learning.  And food fried in oil.7669hanukkah-posters For others, this Wednesday celebrates the birth of a man sometimes known as The Prince of Peace.

Some will celebrate Kwanza for seven nights starting on the 26th.

Whatever our traditions, the winter solstice invites us to reflect on the year gone by, and to be thankful for family and friends.

A few months ago I was invited to speak to students at Stuyvesant High School about my journey to founding an elementary school. This was part of a series of lectures organized under the TEDx program.

I explained that the Nick Lowe song, "What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding?" asks a question that I have spent much of my life answering.

So while this Christmas may find many of you going to YouTube to watch The Interview you can also go there to hear my talk to the Stuy students. For free.

In the spirit of the season, I wish for peace, love and understanding for you and yours.
